Brand new in store & online -the super HD Silent Witness SW224 Dash camera.

The latest in car CCTV system from Silent Witness boasts impressive features including built in WIFI and driver behaviour tracking. The tracking feature allows you to monitor speed, acceleration and braking of the vehicle while it’s in use, all of which can be monitored from your smart phone by a free compatible app.

So, who is this for?

Any business owners who allow other employees the use of a company vehicle will benefit from the features offered by the SW224. However, vehicle tracking and camera systems are becoming more popular with parents and guardians of young road users. According to the charity ‘Brake’ “One in four 18-24 year olds (23%) crash within two years of passing their driving test” (Brake). These incidents could be a result of a number of factors, and it is important to note that despite the statistics, the young drivers aren’t always at fault. But there’s no harm in keeping an eye on them…

How can this help?

“As well as providing peace of mind for the parents and guardians of young drivers, parental monitoring has been found to reduce risky driving” (Brake).

Prior to the development of these sophisticated dash camera systems there has been an increase in the use of other behaviour tracking devices. The non-mandatory black box insurance scheme, which came into play in recent years sees the installation of smartphone sized telematics devices behind the dashboard of young driver’s vehicles. The main incentive for the black box scheme is to reduce the ever-increasing insurance premiums for under 21’s. The main purpose on the other hand is for the insurer and parents/guardians to track and monitor the driving behaviour of new road users. The SW224 offers a more advanced monitoring system as well as operating as a Dash Camera therefore acting as an aid to the driver as well as a monitoring device.

What does it do?

The SW224 is WIFI enabled and comes with a free, compatible iOS and Android app which is easily downloadable and user friendly. The app comes with password protection to ensure no unauthorized access. Managing the settings is straight forward and all of your recorded footage can be stored, viewed, edited and shared on social media.

The camera also works with Google Maps to provide and calculate a driving behaviour score system. This allows the driver to be scored on all elements of their driving, i.e. acceleration, speeding, heavy breaking and sharp turns. The driver will then be issued an overall score by the camera which will ultimately emphasise their level of safety whilst behind the wheel.

The SW224 also has the option of continuous or incident recording. Incident recording relies on a G-Force sensor which will force the camera to start recording should the vehicle experience an impact. Continuous recording is enabled when you start the engine and will record on a continuous loop, any unused footage will then be deleted when the SD card becomes full.
